For a carpenter the bed is one of the most interesting pieces of furniture to deal with. Beds offer many constructive possibilities and are perfect for transformations and integrations with the other furniture of the bedroom and sleeping area.
We designed and made these two beds for an Italian country-house. The structure of the beds has been totally made using solid reclaimed fir wood and the backrest and the side bands are composed by a handmade mosaic of reclaimed woods with colored patinas, which combine with the shades of the room’s walls.
We designed two different versions of the same wooden bed: one bed consists of a low platform lying on the floor with a 15cm deep headboard fixed to the wall; the other has a normal structure with 4 legs but the peculiarity is that the headboard has a double function: headboard and bookcase.
This allows to put the bed in the middle of the room as a sleeping island where to rest, read and sleep.
The back of the headboard is a deep shelf entirely made of reclaimed wood left in its natural shade. It can be used for storing clothes, bags, books, etc. The technological part of this bed is represented by the possibility to insert inside the structure traditional sockets and USB ports. The nets of these two beds are made with larch slats.

The smoothness of the new solid wood makes this very simple bed an elegant design bed.
Here we used 3 different kinds of wood species: we left them in their natural shade and we played with these different colors in order to create a geometrical effect on the headboard.
It can be reproduced using 3 or more kinds of wood.
A contemporary inlaid bed in oak, reclaimed vintage wood and blue lacquer. Inlay as an element of contemporary design: a puzzle made of small pieces of oak and recycled wood in various shades and antique patinas. The graphic motif becomes the protagonist of this double bed with drawers and headboard, which is also a bookcase.
This bed is an “all-in-one”: we designed a decorated backrest through the interlocking of recycled wood tiles that could also be the support structure for drawers and a bookcase.
Under the slatted base we have inserted 4 drawers to make the most of the space under the bed.
The solid wood present in the frame and in some pieces of the wooden mosaic is natural oak.
For a more classical bedroom’s organization we always have to insert a bed, a dresser or chest of drawers and some bedside tables. We also design this furniture. “ Northern light” chest of drawers is made using reclaimed wood only. But the possibilities are truly infinite.
We also design and build mirrors, chairs or benches.
In these projects we have developed a hybrid model: neither high mezzanines nor beds on the ground, but wardrobe beds, within reach of children, placed about 150cm from the ground. The space under the bed is filled with container modules; to exploit the full depth of a bed, we have developed two possibilities: modules on wheels that extract and open on the side, or two rows of modules 40cm deep.
The first row on wheels is easily movable, the second row fixed, ideal for blankets and other bulky things that are not used daily.
The beds are equipped with sturdy fall protection balustrades, which can be pulled out to change the sheets comfortably.
The photos show two realizations of double beds, interspersed with a ladder module (which can also be used as a container), but similar ideas can also be exploited for single beds.
We do not like factory-fresh children’s rooms, and in our opinion in many cases the aesthetics of children’s furniture is a bit cold and banal taste imposed by adults.
But the furniture has to be there, work, contain… So we did a very funny experiment: we gave wooden tablets to the children who the bed was intended for and to involve them in the design we told them: take care of the colors!
The children drew and painted the tables, and we then arranged them in patchwork on the front of the beds, so they too could be the authors of their bedroom.
