“NORTHERN LIGHT” SIDEBOARDS Northern Light project is a mood, a rule: sideboards and furniture made with recycled and reclaimed fir. The original varnishing is fixed to the wood maintaining the original cold and tundras colours shades.
Soft colors and diffused brightness framed by a linear and rigorous design. For who loves sober, placid, Nordic beauty.
The name refers to the pull-out rolling pin stored inside the credenza. The “Mattarella” sideboard is a multifunctional service furniture for the kitchen.
The inside of this credenza is designed to place pans, plates, pots and all the cooking stuff. The inside of this credenza is designed to place pans, plates, pots and all the cooking stuff. The idea of this sideboard is to have a multifunctional space for cooking, chopping and mixing ingredients but also a peninsula for tasting a good aperitivo. The wheels make the movement easier.
We have decided to use, in addition to new materials, recycled wood and discarded objects because we love the unconventional and unpredictability of these kinds of materials, their evocative traces of old paint, defects, and signs of time. We like the idea of injecting new life and giving a second chance to wood and objects destined to the landfill. We believe reusing and recycling are the unique possible alternative for a real sustainable eco-design.
The structure of this sideboard is made with wood used in building sites, while the doors are in recycled wood taken from some old doors and oxidized iron.
The design is the result of collaboration with the architect Raffaella Craba , whose need was to have a big cupboard to be inserted in the already existing living room furniture.
We are always looking for antique wood, old doors, ultra-seasoned boards, disused flooring and scrapped furniture. With recycled materials we build the new “scraps” sideboards, using the longest boards for the body of the sideboard and the shorter for doors and smaller components.
The idea is to save the original varnishing, which we called “patina” of the old wood, dissecting and assembling them in a way that always leaves their lived side visible.
Using reclaimed wood means to work with embedded wood with irregular thickness, this requires extra attention and capability to create “imperfect” sideboards.
The beauty and characteristic of this kind of material is the irregularity of the surface and the trace of the time over it.
Once the reclaimed wood has been refurbished, we finish it with water finishes or transparent resins which make the cleaning process easier by using a damp cloth. This finish guarantees protection and stability over time.

And then… we do the rest!
First of all we create a 3D project which gives you an idea of the result. From this step we start to modify the project as you suggest. We continue until we don’t reach your ideal furniture!
