In 2011 the first lacquered sideboard with doors made of recycled wood was born: the “Bordeaux Violet”.
The idea was to make the dusty patina of vintage woods reflecting in the perfect and glossy lacquered surface of a sideboard. Both materials gained something from the other, contrast makes them even more beautiful.
White, matt or glossy lacquering highlights the reclaimed wood better than any other finishing.
During these years we played freely with all the possible tones and coloured lacquerings, constantly experimenting with new associations between the colors of the lacquers and those obtained from the restoration of ancient parts with various layers of different paints or a construction board dirty with concrete.
The structure of this chest of drawers is a matt gray lacquering. The drawer fronts were built with recycled wood of 3 different textures and paints: one is gray-black, the other is a beige peeling and the last is gray-beige.
“Patine” is the term, borrowed from the restoration world, to define the result of the action of time (dust, oxidation, old paints, bumps, holes, etc.) on the surface of the wood. Often this action gives rise to effects of incomparable beauty, all to be discovered and used.
We commonly use original old woods, restoring the patinas to adapt them to the use for which they will be destined. Sometimes to achieve the desired tone, we change the color of the wood, darken it, whiten it, stratify it. The wood is then treated to block the “patina” in the state reached. Reclaimed woods are the soul of the piece, and often those who request work come personally to the workshop to choose the antique board to use.
In designing a sideboard there are many elements that can contribute to its uniqueness. We often use handles obtained from old hinges, crystal chandeliers, bolts, industrial knobs, old billboards.
The same goes for the structure of the piece of furniture, another visual element that lends itself to particular solutions and creative inventions: a leg or a small piece from old and dismissed furniture, an industrial element, a cube made with an ancient beam.
We love to use hydraulic components and objects to design our furniture. Legs and handles of a cupboard can be made using new metal pipes. This sideboard is a tribute to Mario Bros!
The industrial taste can be overpowered by using a bright coloured lacquering and the use of metal doors which can be left in their original tone or painted too.
