This is a kitchen entirely built characterized by the alternation of three aesthetic elements: the supporting structure made with our handmade grey resin coating, some elements made with iron and the rest made with reclaimed antique chestnut boards which we found in a disused farmhouse.
The effect given by the signs of the time on this burnished and cracked wood is amazing and unique. Each centimeter of this reclaimed old wood tells us its long history. The result is sober but fascinating.
Every part of the kitchen revolves around a huge antique stone wash basin which was embedded in the masonry of the house which has been restored and adapted to use.
The masonry indissolubly seals the kitchen to a house, and this makes it central, structural and integrated to the environment. This is the thing that fascinates us the most: the thickness of the walls, the massive appearance of the top, the absence of curbs and studs.
The first mansory kitchen we made was in collaboration with Daniela Argenti. First of all she made the concrete effect resin coating of the masonry. Then we took care of the construction of the cabinets, the chest of drawers, doors, etc. The combination of the microcement and our reclaimed materials (iron, new and reclaimed woods, old objects) transforms the space into an original and lively environment, warm and cold at the same time.
This kitchen was designed in 2013 by arch. Nicola Saraceno: he design a very linear kitchen characterized by the presence of the combination of white lacquering, reclaimed wood, and a stone top.
This handmade wooden kitchen has been design to be inserted in an open-space frame, with glass doors and an industrial style floor. In this case, the division of spaces was rigorous and made the materials and their combination central.
Each of our wooden kitchen is handcrafted and designed for a specific purpose. There is no a fix model: we always transform the design to fit the needs and the taste of the clients.
When we start to design a kitchen we do not take into account the classic kitchen set: we prefer the uniqueness, the non-standard, the experimentation.
A carpenter made Kitchen, compared to a modular industrial one, offers a whole series of additional possibilities and its strengths are: freedom in designing and in choosing colors and materials, total customization, handmade result!
Our way of conceiving a kitchen composition is the opposite of an industrial and standard one. We love not to be “linear”, we love to surprise clients with original and unique composition.
We also build the kitchen you have in your mind, no matter how it looks, like a living room, a garage, a spaceship or an old pharmacy.
Our creative part always takes into account functionality and technology, which are fundamental parts of the design projects
We design and manufacture custom made cabinets and kitchens referring to the planimetry clients send to us.
The compositions of the kitchens are created in detail together with the clients. We can design built-in appliances, reclaimed wood kitchen islands or peninsulas, equipped walls units, pantries, storage grids and also the lightings..
In each step of the design process we send an updated 3D project with all the dimensions and the selected details: chosen materials and solutions adopted.
Laquercia21 also produces various carpentry components for masonry kitchens, in collaboration with other companies: doors, built-in drawers, etc. we take care of the transport and the setting up of the kitchen, without delegating to external fitters.
The kitchens are daily subjected to high levels of humidity, heat, heavy weights and mistreatment of all kinds. For this reason the choice of high-quality materials is a key factor.
In order to build resistant carpenter kitchens, we use plywood and mdf for the modules, and phenolic (very resistant) high thickness plywood for the top.
All the doors are made of solid new and reclaimed wood, suitably protected by a strong handmade resin covering, which makes the surface waterproof. We often use iron, finished with anti-rust paint for building doors or as a protective covering for walls (itf you don’t want to put tiles on the walls).
For the top our most frequent solution is the use of wooden boards with a coloured resin coatings, but you can also choose steel coatings or solid wood tops protected by a transparent resin finish.
Sometimes we collaborate with other craftsmen if clients ask for very specific solutions like marble or stone tops.
Choosing a handmade and hacrafted kitchen allows to find the perfect solutions which fit both the space characteristics (and problems) and clients’ taste.
Due to the high thickness and its properties of hardness, impermeability and strength, resin is the ideal finish for masonry (or wooden-mansory) kitchens. With a resin covering is possible to create a great range of different textures and effects. It can be chosen in a monochrome shade or with a concrete effect, in a natural tone or coloured.
It is also possible to use the same resin finishing for the floor’s kitchen (or only on a part of it), and on the walls if you want to avoid any other kind of coverings like tiles.
As the last step we cover the surface with a generous layer of transparent polyurethane resin which makes the surface waterproof and more resistant.
Mansory kitchens are very beautiful and stylish but it involves a very huge walling work which creates a real “dusty mess”.
For those who do not feel like doing an invasive masonry intervention inside the house, but appreciate the typical aesthetic lines of mansory kitchens with its thicknesses and volumes, we have invented an alternative: the wooden mansory.
This means recreating the “masonry” structure by using wood instead of concrete and bricks.
Between 2 wooden cabinets we build a wooden structure which has the same optically effect and volume of a concrete wall.
This alternative solution perfectly mimics the visual effect of the classic masonry kitchens. The wooden mansory has the merit of avoiding additional structural works, and to significantly shorten the time of intervention inside the house (which in the case of classical masonry can last a few days).
Why not? You can imagine a kitchen as if it were a unique piece of furniture, maybe a long cupboard, on its legs, with its line, which includes a sink or stove on top, an oven between doors and drawers. Due to the very little spaces of many houses today, this seems to us an interesting proposal to furnish a kitchenette without having to resort to claustrophobic solutions of modules and wall units in a row.
The incomparable harmony of a single piece of furniture is compatible with the design of a kitchen, without loosing the functionality: the power of the handmade kitchens!
